How to Have Eternal Life and a Personal Relationship with God.

Step 1

To have eternal life we need to rely upon God’s power to give it to us.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. Romans 1:16.

Step 2

We need to recognize that we are separated from God because of our willful disobedience to His will. That disobedience is called “sin.”

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23

Sin entered the world through the disobedience of the first man, Adam. As a result of his sin, every person is born alienated (apart) from God.

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned Romans 5:12

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Step 3

We need to know that God loves us and provided a way for us to be reconciled (made friends again) with Him.

Jesus Christ came to this world, lived a perfect life and died on the cross as a sinless sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sins.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Step 4

We must believe the gospel, that Jesus Christ died for our sins, and receive Him by faith as our personal savior.

by which [gospel] also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 1 Corinthians 15:2-4

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. John 1:12

So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, …” Acts 16:31
